POSITION: SMS Coordinator
REPORTS TO: Compliance Manager

SUMMARY
Responsible for developing, implementing and managing the SMS Program and Safety culture for the safe operation at the airports and surroundings. Monitor safety operations, both airside and landside. Identify hazards risk, make safety risk assessments, and risk mitigation. Coordinate trainings, share safety data, communicate safety issues, and develop safety campaigns.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages and administers the airport Safety Management System Program (Safety Policy, Safety Risk Management, Safety Assurance and Safety Promotion), implements and constantly monitors it.
- Collects and documents data related to safety issues reported and identify risks such as accidents, incidents, near misses, and aircraft emergencies.
- Inspects both landside and airside areas of the airport, daily walks, and inspection in the Air Operations
- Promotes a safe operation and safety culture at the airport, both within the organization and with the airport community (safety talks, survey analysis, safety campaigns).
- Investigates and analyzes root cause from any incident, accident or identified Perform Safety Risk Assessments and respond to any confidential report received.
- Research best safety practices from other airports and FAA, ICAO and other civil aviation authorities, networking with other airport SMS managers and executive.
- Audits different areas around the airport, from ground service equipment to overall FAA Part 139 certification requirements.

- Contributes to both vision and mission statement, to operate the airport with the high safety standards and a safe airport experience.
- Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for Board of Directors, of regulations compliance
- Disseminates safety data, corrective action plans and safety awareness

- Participates in preparing the annual budget to best adjust the needs of the SMS Program, safety campaigns, software, and consulting fees.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong knowledge of FAA and civil aviation safety regulations, with the ability to analyze and interpret applicable laws, rules, and policies.
- Experience conducting safety inspections and audits across both airside and landside airport environments.
- Demonstrated ability to collect, assess, and respond to safety data including incidents, near misses, and hazard reports.
- Proficiency in conducting root cause analysis and developing Safety Risk Assessments (SRA) and risk mitigation strategies.
- Knowledge of safety reporting tools and safety data management systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present safety issues, prepare reports, and lead safety briefings or campaigns.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to documentation, recordkeeping, and reporting requirements.
- Proven ability to promote a proactive safety culture through training, outreach, and stakeholder engagement.
- Capable of developing safety awareness programs, internal safety communications, and managing safety promotional activities.
- Familiarity with budgeting processes and ability to recommend SMS program resources and software needs.
- Skilled in building effective relationships with internal teams, contractors, regulatory agencies, and the airport community.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to conduct physical inspections, including walking airport grounds and facilities (airside and landside).
- Must be able to pass all required background checks and maintain security clearance.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and SMS software platforms.
- Willingness to attend industry conferences, trainings, and professional development programs related to airport safety.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Associate’s degree in Aviation Management, Safety Management, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in airport operations, aviation safety, risk management, or a related compliance role.
- Experience with FAA Part 139 operations and SMS implementation preferred.
- Certification in Safety Management Systems, Occupational Safety, or equivalent credentials (e.g., Certified Safety Professional, Airport Certified Employee – ACE) is desirable.
- Familiarity with or use of safety management and reporting systems/software (e.g., VISION, AQD, SMS Pro, or equivalent) is preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple and complex, technical correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers (internal and external), customers and the general public.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.

Must possess a valid Driver’s License as a condition of employment.
