POSITION: Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Manager
REPORTS TO: Deputy Chief Operating Officer

SUMMARY
The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for ensuring that the airport complies with environmental, health, and safety regulations. This role encompasses overseeing airport-wide environmental initiatives, promoting occupational health and safety standards, and implementing sustainability practices. The EHS Manager collaborates with internal teams and external agencies to foster a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible operational environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure the airport’s operations comply with all relevant environmental, health and safety regulations, FAA standards, OSHA and state/local laws.
- Develop and manage sustainability programs aimed at reducing the airport’s carbon footprint, promoting energy efficiency, reducing waste, and improving water management.
- Collect and analyze data on air, water, soil quality, stormwater runoff and noise levels to track the airport’s environmental impact and take corrective measures if necessary. Conduct regular audits and inspections.
- Oversee hazardous and non-hazardous waste management programs, ensuring proper disposal, recycling, and compliance with environmental safety standards.
- Work with the airport’s operations team to monitor and manage noise pollution in compliance with FAA standards and local ordinances.
- Conduct and oversee environmental impact assessments for new airport projects, including construction and expansion activities, evaluating potential environmental risks and ensuring minimal impact on ecosystems and compliance with environmental regulations.
- Prepare and submit regular reports to regulatory agencies. Maintain accurate records of environmental monitoring data, health and safety inspections, training logs, and incident investigations.
- Coordinate EHS policies, rules and regulations imparted by EHS Director.
- Collaborate with airport authorities, tenants, airlines, contractors, and local communities to promote environmental stewardship and sustainability initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Compliance Manager on reporting the activities and the compliance of the EHS program.
- Implement and maintain wildlife hazard management programs to reduce the risk of bird strikes and other wildlife-related incidents on airport property and collaborate directly with wildlife management professionals and local environmental organizations to manage and mitigate wildlife hazards effectively.
- Oversee the airport’s emergency response plans for environmental hazards, such as chemical spills, fuel leaks, and hazardous waste incidents. Ensure readiness for disaster response and environmental emergencies.
- Conduct safety and environmental training sessions for airport personnel, contractors, and tenants. Topics include hazardous material handling, emergency response, and general safety procedures.
- Ensure that all contractors comply with airport EHS policies and relevant safety protocols while conducting work on airport property.
- Develop and implement safety programs, such as respiratory protection, fall protection, personal protective equipment (PPE), and emergency response plans.
- Lead investigations of workplace accidents, injuries, and environmental incidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Engage with industry committees and attend conferences to stay informed on emerging trends and best practices in airport environmental and safety and compliance management.
- Develop and manage budgets for environmental, health and safety programs ensuring cost-effective use of resources.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong knowledge of environmental and EHS regulations, excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills. Proficiency in environmental or EHS software and monitoring tools, preferred.
- Ability to analyze complex environmental data, conduct risk assessments, and develop effective solutions for environmental challenges.
- Familiarity with FAA sustainability guidelines and airport-specific environmental assessments.
- Ability to explain technical information to non-expert stakeholders (airport staff, contractors, community groups).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports, engaging with regulatory agencies, and interacting with the public and stakeholders.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Aviation Management, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Sustainability Management, Environmental Science or related fields.
- Master’s Degree in a related environmental field, preferred.
- Industry certification on environmental, health and safety is a plus.
- 5-7 years of professional experience in environmental, health and safety management, preferably within aviation, transportation, or industrial sectors.
- Experience managing programs related to air quality, water quality, hazardous waste, noise abatement, and wildlife hazard management.
- Experience in aviation or transportation sectors is highly desirable as it provides familiarity with the unique environmental challenges specific to airports.
- Preferable experience or certification in ISO 14001 managing environmental management systems (EMS).
- Experience in leading sustainability programs to reduce emissions, manage waste, improve energy efficiency, and minimize the environmental footprint of operations.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple and complex, technical correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers (internal and external), customers and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.

Must possess a valid Driver’s License as a condition of employment.
