SUMMARY

This is semi-skilled work with supervisory responsibility in cleaning all airport property premises. An employee in this class is responsible for the supervision of custodians on a shift basis for custodial work on airport buildings and offices. Responsible for general and project housekeeping. Coordinates housekeeping support for events and emergencies. Assignments are received from the Airport Facilities Manager or designee and performed with little immediate direction.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Supervise and gives routine instructions for custodial workers to:

  • Mop, sweep, scrub, and polish floors;
  • Wash walls, windows, and woodwork;
  • Move, arrange, dust, and polish furniture and equipment;
  • Rake, remove rubbish and sweep walks;
  • Replace light bulbs, deliver supplies, run necessary errands.
  • Responsible for procurement of supplies and equipment. Prepare work schedule, subject to approval by the Airport Facilities Manager or designee.
  • Submit and verifies payroll for department.
  • Prepare Performance Evaluation Report for review by management. Performs related clerical work as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts, emergencies, holidays, weekends and overnights.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions
  • Ability to make assignments and supervise a group of custodians
  • Ability to get along with others
  • Skilled in the use of cleaning equipment
  • Good physical condition to use and move various cleaning supplies and equipment
  • Ability to read and write

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED, or five (5) years’ experience performing janitorial duties, including some experience as a lead worker or supervisor.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple and technical correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers (internal and external), customers and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Working conditions may result in some physical discomforts and/or moderate exposure to hazards due to temperature, dust, noise, and similar.
