POSITION: Airfield Electrician
REPORTS TO: Facilities Supervisor
LOCATION: USVI Territory
AIRPORT: STT or STX
SUMMARY
Install, repair and maintain electrical systems on airport property including runways, taxiways, aprons and buildings. Read wiring diagrams, electrical plans and specifications. Complete work orders as assigned. Knowledge of FAA Advisory Circulars and National Electrical Code.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
• Works with electrical systems and fixtures ranging from 120 volts to 4800 volts.
• Inspects, repairs and maintains lighting systems on the runways, taxiways and ramps including electrical components.
• Inspects, repairs and maintains airfield guidance signs including electrical components.
• Inspects, repairs and maintains electrical and lighting systems including switchgear, distribution panels, all types of motors and controls.
• Performs other related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• Knowledge of electrical theory as applied to the electrical trade.
• Knowledge of function and operation of commercial and industrial electrical equipment.
• Knowledge of safety requirements.
• Knowledge of FAA airfield regulations and advisory circulars.
• Knowledge of the National Electrical Code NFPA 70 and NFPA 70B.
• Knowledge of materials and tools used in the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment.
• Knowledge of electrical industry standards.
• Skill in the use and care of electrical testing, diagnostic and repair equipment.
• Ability to work in confined spaces.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to distinguish differences in wire, cable color, sizes and types.
• Ability to read and interpret diagrams, blueprints and generator and motor control diagrams.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair cable problems.
• Ability to make time material and cost estimates of small installations and repair jobs
• Ability to create reports of work performed and other related documents and do work related paperwork
• Ability to work long hours standing and do manual work.
• Good health and physical agility sufficient to climb poles, ladders, etc.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and all other persons contacted while at work
• Able to work overtime and be available for after-hours call-ins or emergencies.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a SIDA badge.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• Three (3) years of commercial and/or electrical experience as a journeyman.
• High School Diploma or GED.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple and complex, technical correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers (internal and external), customers and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as interest, proportions, and percentages.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid Driver’s License as a condition of employment.
