Purpose of the Job

Works under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Accounting Manager is responsible for accounts payable, payments, purchasing, preparing financial statements, ensuring that all accounting processes comply with SkyCity’s policies, and leading the annual audits.  The Accounting Manager manages an accounting staff of two (2) people.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Generates monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements.
  • Reviews payable listing, posts and prepares a list for payments.
  • Maintains general ledger accounts.
  • Reconciles and prepares monthly working papers.
  • Reconciles bank accounts.
  • Overseas petty cash and reconciliations.
  • Establishes, prepares, and maintains fiscal files and records for audit purposes.
  • Reviews old outstanding purchase orders to ensure commitments are accurate for performance reporting.
  • Act as the lead person in answering any queries regarding year-end information from the auditors.
  • Provide recommendations to improve the SAGE system and procedures to execute corrective actions.
  • Updates policies and accounting procedures as required.
  • Monitors major contract expenditures to ensure the Department is receiving value for money.
  • Highlights any areas of concern to the CFO and the Department Heads.
  • Follows up quarterly to ensure suspense accounts are cleared promptly.
  • Assists the Procurement Person with vendor contract administration.
  • Assists with the preparation of the annual operating budget for the airports.
  • Maintains Airport records in accordance with established procedures
  • Analyses actual financial performance against budget and prepares the variance report.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Certified Public Accountant designation, bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Aviation Business Management, or related field preferred.
  • At least four (4) years’ experience in accounting and finance, with at least two (2) years in a supervisory/management position, is desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle problems associated with accounting operations, preparation of trial balances, account analysis, financial statements, reports and supervision.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to effectively utilize programs such as MS Excel and MS Word, with the ability to learn newly introduced programs such as Sage Intacct.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Demonstrated financial, administrative and management capability.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and motivate staff.
  • Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work in and support a teamwork environment.
  • Must pass continuous security background checks

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and volume.

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and smell.  The employee is occasionally required to sit.
