Purpose of the Job
Reporting to the EHS Director, the Environmental Health & Safety EHS Coordinator will be primarily responsible for ensuring compliance with the environmental, health and safety standards required by laws and regulations as well as support the safety code for construction work. The role involves ensuring data integrity, system updates, and user support. The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, analytical, and possess strong communication and technical skills. This position will be based in St. Thomas, with travel to St. Croix.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
EHS Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with the laws and regulations applicable to construction sites, and airport operations conduct daily inspections on site to ensure the safety and health of all, and administer instructions and all safety measures specific to the construction site.
- Ensure compliance with the SkyCity EHS Management System, including overseeing compliance with any required environmental monitoring and permit’s conditions. Complete accident investigations with existing personnel, see to the implementation and follow-up on recommendations following accident investigations, and act as safety advisor to site managers.
- Research EHS topics to ensure accuracy and relevance of content and report to Senior Management.
- Provide EHS training programs for airport operations staff.
- Maintaining records and a database related to training, audits, inspections, action plans, reports, monitoring results and compliance.
Data Analysis:
- Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets.
- Generate and analyze EHS reports to identify trends and areas for improvement, interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques, and provide ongoing reports.
Other Duties:
- Provide technical support to EHS system users and troubleshoot issues.
- Write, edit, and proofread EHS content for various platforms including websites, newsletters, and training materials.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, communications, or related field.
- Experience with EHS management systems.
- Familiarity with EHS regulations and reporting requirements.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proven experience as a content writer, with a focus on EHS topics.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Strong research and fact-checking abilities.
- Ability to translate complex EHS information into user-friendly content.
- Adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
- High degree of organizational skills.
