POSITION: Facilities Lead – Electrical

REPORTS TO: Facilities Manager and Senior Facilities Supervisor

SUMMARY

The Facilities Lead – Electrical is responsible for overseeing, maintaining and repairing all electrical systems and infrastructure at the airport, with a strong emphasis on airfield lighting and associated equipment. This role requires a hands-on approach, actively participating in electrical tasks while also leading a team of Electricians. The successful candidate will ensure the safe, efficient and continuous operation of all electrical systems in compliance with local and federal laws, rules and regulations, industry standards and operational requirements. This position will be working under the direct supervision of the Assistant Facilities Manager. The Facilities Lead – Electrical will collaborate with other departments to support smooth airport operations and respond to any maintenance related emergencies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

• Leads technical maintenance personnel;
• Performs technical assessments of airport facilities and/or equipment;
• Performs physical inspection of facilities and/or equipment to be repaired or requiring maintenance and make estimates of the cost of labor and materials required.
• Investigates and solve maintenance or construction problems arising in assigned jobs;
• Troubleshoots complex equipment and system failures;
• Cooperates with outside contractors and firms on assigned projects;
• Ensures compliance of safety protocols;
• Familiarize new employees with maintenance operations and procedures;
• Keep up to date documentation of maintenance activities in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
• Oversees and performs maintenance and repair on all air­field lighting vault and electrical systems and equipment at all Airport owned facilities.
• Performs maintenance and repair work on high voltage airfield lighting circuits. Work includes normal maintenance such as bulb change out, cleaning, transformer replacement and lens replacement, as well as emergency fault location and repair;
• Additional maintenance includes pulling and repairing airfield power and control cables.
• Performs maintenance and repairs on constant current regulators and their associated monitoring systems;
• Performs maintenance and repairs on electrical airfield signage;
• Performs maintenance and repairs on building electrical systems including lighting, electrical distribution systems, loading bridges, baggage belts, lift stations, security systems and fire protection systems, etc.;
• Installs, tests, calibrates and maintain complex control systems, analyzers, electrical switch gear, distribution equipment and safety interlocks;
• Oversees and reviews instrumentation and electrical work performed by outside contractors and tenants.

ACTIVITIES SUPERVISED

• Installation, maintenance and repair tasks of electrical systems and components as part of airport facilities.
• Maintaining in good operating condition all machinery, power units, automotive equipment, buildings, grounds and other structures.
• Enforcement of safety protocols.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
• Knowledge of the operation and repair of airfield lighting and control systems;
• Knowledge of electrical distribution equipment and electrical systems;
• Ability to plan, organize, assign and inspect the work of subordinate personnel;
• Ability to read and draw blue prints, electrical schematics and wiring diagrams;
• Ability to use complex test equipment in troubleshooting and repairing electrical/mechanical equipment;
• Knowledge of safety requirements;
• Ability to work in confined spaces;
• Knowledge of codes, laws, rules, regulations and standards including NEC70 and NFPA;
• Ability to work long hours standing and do manual work;
• Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk, sit, stoop, climb and crawl;
• Computer literate with the ability to use departmental software and programs;
• Ability to use the time and attendance system to approve payroll and time off requests;
• Ability to enter invoices/ purchase orders for processing; and
• Ability to handle personnel matters, supervise staff, manage and communicate effectively;
• Ability to work overtime and be available for after-hours call-ins;
• Ability to obtain and maintain a SIDA badge.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Completion of high school degree or GED equivalent.
• Five (5) years of experience in low and high voltage electrical systems in an airport or industrial facility.
• Two (2) years of experience in a lead/supervisory capacity.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple and complex, technical correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers (internal and external), customers and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License as a condition of employment.
  • Must possess a valid Master Electrician License in the US Virgin Islands.

Required to work extended working hours or be present outside normal schedule during airport emergencies. Shift work required. Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
