POSITION: Mechanic

SUMMARY
The Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing a variety of airport ground support vehicles and equipment, ensuring they are maintained in optimal working condition to support airport operations. This role requires adherence to safety standards, knowledge of mechanical systems, and efficient troubleshooting skills to minimize equipment downtime.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on airport ground support vehicles, tractors, motorize machinery, mowers, etc.
• Assist with minor or major repair on light and heavy motorized equipment, performing as instructed and directed such work as dismantling, cleaning, repairing, renewing, installing new or replacement parts and components and assembling and connecting heavy equipment mechanisms and linkages, refuels, services, lubricates, washes, cleans, and flushes out equipment as necessary.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance, including oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections.
• Maintain detailed records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
• Quickly identify issues with engines, transmissions, brakes, and other vehicle systems.
• Work closely with airport operations teams to prioritize repairs and minimize downtime.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and other team members to address maintenance needs.
• Follow all safety protocols including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to airport environmental, health and safety guidelines.
• Employee performs other related work as required
• This position requires shift work.
• This position requires emergency response work, if needed.
QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to work long hours outdoors under various types of weather conditions
• Knowledge of motorized equipment maintenance
• Ability to work proficiently operate heavy equipment and auxiliaries
• Strong knowledge of automotive repair tools and diagnostic equipment.
• Ability to work industriously without immediate supervision
• Ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics.
• Proficiency in repairing gas, diesel, and electric-powered engines.
• Mechanical knowledge and ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to heavy motorized equipment and auxiliaries
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
• High school diploma or GED required; technical school certification in automotive or diesel mechanics preferred.
• ASE certifications in automotive or diesel repair are advantageous.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple and complex, technical correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers (internal and external).
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must possess a valid Driver’s License as a condition of employment.
